Super Smash Brothers Brawl Review

I remember playing the original Super Smash Brothers with Andrew on the Nintendo 64...Such great times. He was really good at it, and I on the other hand wasn't very good at all. I just remember that Jigglypuff was one of my favorite characters only because he would sing into a microphone singing "Jigglypuff! Jigglypuff!" and put everyone to sleep. The other part I remember of the original Smash Bros is the awesome commercial with Mario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Pikachu running through a field of flowers in slow motion while The Turtles "So Happy Together" played in the background...then all of a sudden they all start fighting and punching each other and hurting each other....One of the best commercials for a video game ever!

I didn't really get into the second game Super Smash Bros. Melee because it was on the Gamecube and that was just a poorly marketed system...I had one but it didn't have that many good games...and it wasn't modded, and I was all into my modded xbox at the time. Seems as though I didn't miss out on much because the new one is out and plays alot like the first one.

The new one has the same fun fast paced gameplay of the other two. But is here with some updated character models and new levels and some other features. It is a great game, but is mainly focused toward multiplayer, that is were the real fun of this game comes from.

There is a single player portion to the game, where it has a storyline of (well I'm not gonna tell you, you have to play it) but it has a 2D side scroller feel to it, and is pretty darn fun and long for a game that is geared for just multiplayer smashups.

The best part about this game is all in the unlockable content...There is so fricken much stuff to unlock it is ridiculous. Alot of random stickers and assist trophies that are all Nintendo based and have a nod to just about everything from every Nintendo game ever made. The soundtrack in this game is top notch too! I downloaded it and listen to it all the time.

The controls are great too because you can use four different controllers to see which one you like the best. Use the Wii controller and Nunchuck, Wii mote by itself held sideways just like the old school NES controller, Classic Controller, or the Gamecube controller. I tried all the controllers but the only one that seemed good was using the Gamecube one...if you get this game, do yourself a favor and get a Wave bird Wireless controller, even in my apartment, I had to put my Wii on the ground and in front of me and hunch over until I remembered that I had two Wave bird controllers.

Likes:

The most characters in the series and TONS of unlockable goodies

Single player mode was great and a pretty good story line, especially since they didn't talk or use subtitles.

Only good game to come out on the Wii since Super Mario Galaxy....The Wii needs more games like this.

Dislikes:

Over-Hyped (Great game, don't get me wrong, but just hyped to be the best game ever made, and was only good)

Double-Layered Disc, some systems wasn't able to read the disc because it was Dual Layered and you have to send your System into Nintendo for them to fix it.

Online play isn't playable, I haven't even tried it, but I've heard from everyone that it takes around 30-45 minutes to connect to a game and then is very very laggy and you can't even talk to the person you are playing against. Nintendo needs to drop the Friends codes and just figure out something better if they want to do online play.

Overall: Get this game! Because its the only thing that is decent on the Wii at all right now. Plus its a great multiplayer and even single player game and will have you playing for hours just trying to unlock everything.
