Rock Band Review
I don't have any rhythm at all... I can't hold a beat and you have to provide me a bucket so I can carry a tune. I suck at clapping my hands even. But when I heard that you can do not just Guitar but also Drums and vocals in Rock Band, I got really excited. This is the ultimate party game. If you have this game when people are over hanging out, you will be playing until the cops get called (Seriously...It happened to me on quite a few occasions) First, its a game by Harmonix, who created the Guitar Hero series before handing it over to Activision (who ruined the Guitar Hero franchise, but more on that in Guitar Hero 3 Review) The presentation in this game is just awesome. You can create your own rocker, which is great since the rockers in Guitar Hero all looked like a bunch of idiots. You can then go on to create your own band and then go on tour and do a bunch of songs and make set lists and get fans and tour buses, jets, and millions of fans. (John Stamos and The Panda Bears rock out regularly and can make a special appearance at any Birthday party, Wedding or Bar-Mitzvah) The Solo tour is great for any person to just rock out and have some fun and train, but the real game is in the multiplayer. Playing on Live with friends is great when you don't have anyone to play with in a 1200 mile radius such as I. But getting together with friends and rocking the house is one of the greatest gaming experience you will ever have. Playing Guitar in this game is just like in Guitar Hero, but they seem to have tweaked the difficulty setting a bit, it seems a little bit easier to play expert than in Guitar Hero 2, and a billion time easier than Guitar Hero 3. But still challenging and fun non the less. Drums is great for anyone who can clap on beat. But as for me, someone with no rhythm, its really really tough. I mean, I can do ok keeping the beat on Medium, but with the added Bass Pedal...I just fail every time. I will keep the beat but then trying to hit the bass pedal notes, I get out of sync and start getting into the red zone and then failing within about 8 seconds after trying to use the pedal. It just screws me up. Vocals are a blast. Its a new form of Karaoke (which means Empty Orchastra...isnt that hauntingly beautiful?) Even if you can't sing at all, its still really fun. But as for me, someone who has no musical talent, Some how I was bless with a real talent to harmonize really well and I can belt out all of these songs. Even on Expert setting I can get 95+% on all songs....(sorry, I'm not trying to toot my own horn...but...toot toot!) All I will say is I can sing one mean "Don't Fear The Reaper" and rockout on the cowbell like no other!
Kotaku style Review coming right up!
Likes: Cleaned up presentation, very professional looking (unlike crappy Guitar Hero 3) Create a Rocker/Band/Band Logo Multiplayer over Live Not just Guitar and Bass, but also Drums and Vocals for that real band feel Hard, but not too hard difficulty setting (Try doing two instruments at once, Guitar and Vocals are awesomely fun!) Downloadable Content and Songs (Something they really dropped the ball on in the Guitar Hero series) And someday they will have Downloadable Full Albums too!
Dislikes: Can't play Band Tour online, just band quick play (not really that big of deal) Gets the cops called on you for rocking out too hard most of the time
Overall: MUST BUY!!! Keep it around for parties just in case. |
